Inspiring Perspectives: Duncan Meisel on how to be transparent and speak up
Duncan Meisel, Executive Director of Clean Creatives, is on a mission: to engage creatives in the transition away from fossil fuels. In our most recent podcast episode, Duncan encourages the creative and advertising community to reassess their client roster, aiming to catalyze climate action efforts.
Providing transparency to inspire change:
"... every year, we publish a report called the F-list report that documents as many examples of agencies working for specific fossil fuel companies as we can find. And that's a global report."
Duncan and the Clean Creatives team believe that the more transparency around which agencies are working for whom, the more willing people will be to speak up, and the greater the chance for change. Clean Creatives works with both individuals and brands in the advertising, marketing, and PR industry who want to be part of the change and see more climate action by helping them understand the role they play in either perpetuating the status quo or disrupting it.
Encouraging everyone to speak up:
“We just encourage people to speak their mind… the reality is that every time we've encouraged someone to speak up about this at their workplace or in their professional network, they find other people who agree with them. No one is ever alone in this feeling.”
Duncan’s team has a guide offering advice on how to effect change and inspire conversations. The key, he says, is just to begin; start the conversation.
